M.R. COWIE

Our Artistic Producer/Director was founder of The Totally Portable Theatre Company, which staged the UK premieres of Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet (Anne Marie MacDonald), The Glace Bay Miners' Museum (Wendy Lill), Never Swim Alone (Daniel MacIvor), and Closet Land (Radha Bharadwaj). He has also directed UK productions of The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Chris Durang), The Bacchae (Euripedes), Vipers Opium (Godfrey Hamilton), Sweetheart (Nick Grosso), Ben Hur (Rob Ballard & Eddie Izzard) and various readings and workshop productions, including the Theatre Canada season at The Finborough Theatre. His work has been selected for the Critic's Choice lists of Time Out (London) and The Times, won an award for acting excellence from The Stage Newspaper, and a nomination for the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. His productions have toured the UK to Edinburgh and Halifax Yorkshire, been staged at The Canadian Embassy and inches from the West End of London, and have been attended by theatre names such as Tom Stoppard and Miranda Richardson. A graduate of the Dalhousie Theatre Department, his past productions in Halifax have included Burn This (Lanford Wilson) in 1994 at the Grafton Street Dance Studio, and work on several Dalhousie Theatre Department productions. He has returned to Canada permanently, and plans to produce plays for The Industry in Halifax while working as a director across Canada.
